The Club has invited Arceo Studio Collective, a portrait studio that photographs members at private clubs, to open a portrait studio in The Georgian Room for five days this October. Julian Arceo photographs households by appointment only. Your sitting sends you home with a portrait of your family: no fee to book or participate, retouching included, and a complimentary 5x7.

What Is Included

  • A Directed Sitting

    Julian directs the sitting the whole way through. Posing is not your job.

    Retouching comes with your portrait at no charge.

    Every member who sits receives one finished print, as our thanks for taking part.

    Everything you take home is yours. Nothing is shared or published without your written permission.

What To Plan For

A Guided, Unhurried Sitting

Each appointment is paced to do the work properly: paperwork, the photography itself, a same-day selection, and retouch review. Selection tends to take the longest, since members are often surprised by their portraits and find it hard to choose just one.

Your spouse, children, and/or grandchildren are welcome. Book a single slot and note who is coming when you reserve, so Julian can set the room for the group.

What To Wear

A Timeless Look

Solid colors, elegant textures, and a coordinated palette photograph best. The goal is not to look current. The goal is a portrait that can hang in your family for years without announcing its decade.

Regal Classic

Soft Formal

Slate blue, ivory, taupe, charcoal, and pearl. Gentle and polished.

For Gentlemen

  • Navy or charcoal suit, sport coat, dress shirt and tie, pocket square, or a turtleneck under a jacket. Coat and tie are required in The Main Clubhouse for gentlemen 14 and older.
  • A watch, cufflinks, class ring, or a meaningful heirloom adds legacy to the frame.
  • Empty your pockets before the sitting. Phones, wallets, and keys have a gift for spoiling a clean line.

For Ladies

  • Long-sleeve dress, tailored blouse, silk, satin, velvet, knit, a structured blazer, shawl, or wrap.
  • Jewelry should feel intentional: pearls, a necklace, a brooch, a wedding ring, or an heirloom piece.
  • Long sleeves are recommended if you would rather not draw attention to your arms, and they finish the formal look.
Darker tones refine the silhouette and read as more formal. Use dark foundations with one or two softer accents rather than dressing everyone head to toe in black.

Club insignia is welcome when it belongs to the story. Other logos usually distract.

Before The Sitting

Arrive Prepared, Not Stressed

Hair and Makeup

  • Professional makeup and a more dressed-up look are welcome, since studio light handles drama well.
  • Bring lipstick, powder or blotting sheets, a brush, and a few pins.
  • Avoid a brand-new hairstyle on the day of the sitting.

Family Wardrobe

  • Coordinate, do not match. Three or four colors across the whole family.
  • Lay every outfit out together the night before and adjust the one that fights the others.
  • Steam or press everything. Wrinkles love studio flash; the feeling is not mutual.

Children

  • Tell them Julian will say where to stand. They do not have to be perfect, only to listen and have fun.
  • Bring water, non-messy snacks, wipes, and a backup outfit for the youngest.
  • Skip chocolate, bright candy, and juice.

Bring The Piece With A Story

  • Legacy: a watch, class ring, medals, a book, a cane, an old photograph.
  • Romance: pearls, wedding jewelry, an anniversary piece.
  • Family: an heirloom photo, a family Bible, a generational keepsake.
You do not need to decide anything before the sitting. You only need to arrive ready to choose after you have seen the portraits.

Julian Arceo

Julian has spent fourteen years making portraits, tracing back to a high school yearbook camera he never put down. Today he photographs the members of private clubs, one household at a time.

His sessions are unhurried by design. You are not stepping into a photo booth. You are sitting with an astute artist whose only work that day is to see you clearly, direct you kindly, and make a portrait worth keeping.

Before You Come

Questions

Is there a cost to sit?
There is no fee to book or participate, and retouching comes with your portrait at no charge. Optional collections and prints are available afterward; ask Julian if you would like to hear about them.
What do I receive?
Every member who sits receives a complimentary 5x7 portrait as our thanks for taking part.
Why is the Club doing this?
The Club brought in a portrait photographer so that every household can sit for a family portrait at the Club, at no cost. Family Portrait Days are the Club's gift to members.
What should we wear?
Dress for the occasion. Solid colors photograph beautifully, and coordinating tones across the family works better than matching exactly. Coat and tie are required for gentlemen aged 14 and older in The Main Clubhouse, and The Georgian Room sits within it.
How long does it take?
Plan on 15 to 30 minutes for an individual portrait, 45 to 60 minutes for a couple, 55 to 90 minutes for a family of three or four, and up to two hours for a family of five or more. Selection is what varies. The photography itself is the quick part.
Can I bring my family?
Please do. Every generation is welcome, from grandparents to the newest arrival. Mention who is coming when you book.
I photograph badly. Help.
Almost everyone says this. Julian has spent fourteen years photographing people who were certain they were the exception. Directing you is his job, not yours.
When will I see the portraits?
Immediately. You and Julian review your portraits together during the sitting itself, retouching included.
Will my portrait be used for marketing?
No. Your portrait will not be used publicly or for marketing without your written permission.
What if I would prefer not to participate?
Your standing at the Club is unaffected. Every member who is comfortable is encouraged to come by.
